Australia Does Have a Cuter Side

Catching some Zzzzs

This picture – courtesy of The Australian Conservation Foundation – is for my friend from yeseventhistoowillpass who has a soft spot for the Aussie Koala.  After giving him a rather bad shock with the previous post of a sheep wrangling snake from a property in North West Queensland I promised him a picture of one of our cuter critters.

Most of the photo’s you will find of them in the wild will be of them eating or sleeping [although sleeping is really a euphemism for passed out drunk on the leaves they eat] but you will catch some great photos is you take the time and the ones of mothers with their cubs are delightful.

  1. I love that first picture! I’m stealing it and making it my phone wallpaper. Your posts are making me so happy today! (Well, happy might not be the word for the snake one, but I liked that, too.)

    • I know – the only people who have guns here are the farmers [stock rifles], the military and the police. There are the clubs etc but the average person doesn’t have a gun, even the criminals rarely have them [except in TV drama’s then it’s all about the shooting].

We do have a lot of things that can kill you here but as a rule it follows the don’t bother us, we won’t bother you – THAT rarely applies to people. In fact often people go out of their way to bother others add in guns and you have a huge mess in my opinion.

  2. So sweet – didn’t like the snake but I will never visit Pelee Island near me because it’s full of snakes – heck I screamed like a baby because there was a centipede in my sink – yuck
I’m gonna sleep thinking of the koalas
Now I would love to go to Australia but I’d need about 5 days to survive the jet lag for the 22 hour flight.

      • Don’t think they’d like to travel that far – and I don’t think you guys have the right Eucalyptus Gum Leaves for them to eat. 😀

      • No these were shot in the wild and no for some reason the pythons don’t eat the koala’s. No one is really sure why. It’s 11.10 pm Tuesday night here.

      • Too furry? No because they eat sheep… So koalas make koala sounds… They seem like quiet souls… Who eats koalas… Don’t tells people do… Dingos? I want a pair of those furry cuties..

      • Koalas can growl or snarl if they’re in the mood but as a rule the thing that has killed the most Koalas recently has been cars. With highways cutting through their territories they sometimes get hit crossing the road.

  3. There is no doubt that Koala’s have an “awwwwe” cute factor that is unmatched in the animal kingdom. It is impossible to look at a picture of a Koala and stay angry. I wonder why we are so attracted to them? Someone once told me that Teddy bears are attractive because the ratio of the head size to the body size approximates that of an infant child. I wonder if that is true for Koala’s too?

    • Personally I think it’s the ears and the fluffy way they stick up as well as the way their faces are shaped to always look like they’re smiling.
