Saw this and just rolled up with laughter. I’ve been saving it for the right time and I think today is it. OM’s war with the squirrel has gone biological and I think he may need a little pick-me-up.
Thank you Smile Be Happy for the image.

We don’t have squirrels per say, but we do have possums, some are small and kinda cute and others – hmm – cross a skunk with a squirrel and you’re almost there, add a dash of racoon for good measure and there you have the possum.

I have those here too…I had one try to play dead in the garage and watched his perk up and his at me, when we tried to move him. Freaked me out for a bit.

Yep, ignore the whole I’m cute with big eyes and insouciant face – they will claw you like a great cat if cornered or you are between them and food.

I’ve seen some squirrels get out of some impossible situations. I don’t doubt the little guy above will be fine on his own. I enjoy squirrels but some people wage war with them. I had a neighbor some years ago like OM. he was at war. I found some very realistic plastic squirrels in a shop and wanted to mount them up in the neighbor’s trees but my wife at the time wouldn’t let me. Killjoy. Our neighbor would chase the squirrels aorund with a broom. I think the squirrels enjoyed it. A friend of mine once said to me (and I think this applies to squirrels as well): “You know, arguing with you is like wrestling with a pig in the mud. After a while you start to realize the pig is enjoying himself.”

Hahaha I’m having a problem with squirrels at the moment.. Anyone who really knows me will be thinking ‘really? You? You who ‘watered’ a slug because it crawled through cigarette ash and you didn’t want it to dry out?’ Yes, the animal lover has a problem with a squirrel. I’ve always had an odd relationship with squirrels since my mum freaked out when I brought a dead one into the house when I was two years old (I had thought it was just asleep) but my mum told me of diseases they carry (not sure if she was talking about squirrels in general or dead squirrels) and they have freaked me out a bit ever since. We have always had a few living in the trees at the end of the end of the garden and we co-exist peacefully. Until they learned to climb the bird feeder. If I was rich, it would not be a problem but do you know how much bird feed costs and how much squirrels eat? More than I can afford.

Ahhh, the classic squirrel problem. Well Nikki, you are in good company – many bird lovers have this problem. Forget about getting rid of the squirrels: as long as there is a bird feeder, they’ll be there to enjoy it. Your only hope is to buy/design a birdfeeder that is “squirrel-proof” – much easier said than done. Mau the force be with you.

I never even considered trying to get rid of the squirrels, they and their family have been in the garden as long as I’ve been alive. But I’ve found online a weight activated bird feeder where the weight of a squirrel will shut off the feeding holes that sounds promising.

Oh, they are devious Nikki. If you happen to look out the window and see a squirrel floating by with balloons tied to her feet and tail, you’ll know they found a way around the weight activated challenge.

Not squirrels but possums – imagine a squirrel mixed with a skunk and throw in a dash of raccoon and that is what some of the larger possum breeds look like. Some are cute but the big ones – very bad tempered and expert break and enter creatures.

Squirrels are funny things though they will stand up to you.. Actually I like squirrels. We have possums here.. With their sharp pointed nose.. You have deadly brown snakes.. Don’t mind if I don’t go out bare footed there:)
